Many people, especially young people take part in environmental activities through voluntary and civil society work however there is little or no validated recognition for this. This project examined how all these groups activities on environmental projects could be validated and accredited by using a system that would be effective, flexible and credible.

And for the users was accessible, non-threatening and relevant. The project researched existing practices, pulled this together and identified good practice and then put together a framework for assessment criteria and learning outcomes for 5 key areas. This was tested by the partners, refined and made available to the partners and to other organisations.

The project was developed around the following activities:

  • The research of existing practices and the identification of “good practices”
  • Needs analyses of organizations in the network for recognition, validation and transparency of informal learning achieved through volunteering
  • The production of a framework of approach
  • The identification of 5 key areas of learning to develop criteria for assessment and learning outcomes and pathways of accreditation
  • The undertaking of workshops
  • The testing of the product
  • The work on the accreditation process
